The focus of the Trauma Foundation is the promotion of science and research, the development and application of new treatment methods and the dissemination of findings and knowledge gained from the funded projects.
The Trauma Foundation was established in 2004 by Prof. Dr. Christian Krettek, internationally renowned trauma surgeon. The Trauma Foundation works where the health care reforms of recent years leave no options for action.
Prof. Dr. medical Christian Krettek, FRACS, FRCSEd, came to the Hannover Medical School in 1982 after completing his studies and two years of research at the Pharmacological Institute of the LMU Munich and went through the classic, broad surgical training in the clinics of Professors Tscherne, Pichlmayr and Borst. From the beginning there was a clear clinical and academic focus on severe trauma and musculoskeletal problems. After the habilitation and adjunct professorship, most recently as a senior consultant, offers for professorial positions in Germany and overseas followed. In 1999 he accepted the call to the first professorship of this kind in Australia as Professor of Traumatology at Monash University in Melbourne and quickly expanded the newly established trauma clinic at the Alfred Hospital into the largest trauma care provider on the 5th continent.
This international experience has had a decisive influence on his career. Since his appointment to the Chair of Trauma Surgery at Hannover Medical School (MHH) in 2000, he has been the director of the Trauma Surgery Clinic, succeeding his teacher areas of care for severe injuries, navigation and robotics and tissue engineering.
